How much hair do I need?

The lab asks for a sample weight of approxmately 100 milligrams or one heaping teaspoon.

The length should be about 1-1.5 inches from the scalp. Any hair extending that length, should be cut off and discarded.

If you have very thin hair or not much hair to spare, you may request a small paper hair scale be sent to you at no cost. This will ensure you get enough hair for the lab, without collecting too much. Email us at

An insufficient sample will lead to the lab requesting more hair and delay the process.
